Research indicates that time spent in nature is critical for children’s cognitive, emotional, social, and educational development. A growing number of studies reveal that children experience reduced stress levels and improved social skills as a result of more time in nature. Benefits also include increased concentration, greater attention capacities, and higher academic performance.
Big Waters is committed to youth education through discovery, nature-based activities, citizen science, and memorable experiences in the great outdoors. With a specific focus on underserved communities, our programming gives kids wild places to explore and learn about the wonders of our natural world, helping to shape their views on wildlife and habitats, instilling a love for nature, and inspiring their desire to protect the environment.
Through collaborations with numerous youth-serving organizations, our youth programs get kids outside year-round, providing thousands of WOW! moments each year, along with a host of benefits for overall well-being.
Program activities and outings are facilitated by our Youth Education Manager, Sarah Rubin, and would not be possible without the generous support of our community.
