Conserving Land for a Vibrant Future

In the United States, approximately 150 acres of natural land and 40 acres of farmland are lost every hour, impacting wildlife and natural resources profoundly. In Florida, where over 1,000 new residents arrive daily, preserving our remaining natural landscapes is critical to protecting what makes our state unique.

Why Conservation Matters

At its core, land conservation safeguards essential resources including forests, wetlands, rivers, and wildlife habitats. These areas contribute to clean air and water, regulate climate, support biodiversity, and provide recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

When we preserve natural areas, we safeguard critical habitats for diverse wildlife. Florida is home to a remarkable array of endemic species—plants and animals found nowhere else in the world—such as the Florida scrub jay, Florida panther, and Florida loosestrife. These species rely on specific habitats unique to Florida’s landscape. By safeguarding the land our native species depend upon, we help ensure wildlife have the space and resources they need not only to survive, but to thrive.

A Defense Against Urban Sprawl

Conservation helps curb urban sprawl, preserving scenic landscapes and recreational spaces that enhance quality of life, environmental health, and economic resilience. Our community depends on nature for many reasons, and when we protect it, we are protecting the vibrancy and wellness of all who live, work, and play in Southwest Florida.

Restoration for Resilience

Our work doesn’t stop at conservation; we also focus on restoring native landscapes for people and nature. By conserving land, we protect it from further human disruption, and by restoring it, we help return it to its native state so that it is better able to naturally clean our water, provide food and shelter for wildlife, and increase our community’s resiliency in the face of an ever-changing climate.

Nature for Today and Tomorrow

Nature is a place of respite, a source of adventure, and a treasure trove for a lifetime of memories. The land we save together ensures our community has natural areas and open spaces to enjoy both now and in the future. When it comes to protecting nature, our community, and our way of life, land conservation is essential.
