Michael Biehl Park

This community park connects people to the Venetian Waterway Park and beautifies the northern gateway to Venice Island.

The Story

Using a grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Big Waters purchased a small parking lot along Tamiami Trail adjacent to the Venice Theatre. Working with the City of Venice, this piece of asphalt was transformed it into a lovely urban park connecting people to the Venetian Waterway Park and beautifying the northern gateway to Venice Island. The park is named after local philanthropist Michael Biehl.

Why it Matters

This small park demonstrates the importance of transforming a vacant or underused site into a place where people can visit, rest, and have fun. Parks and natural areas in our communities provide places to gather, make them more attractive, help increase the value of surrounding lands, and spur economic development and tourism.
