Join us for a naturalist-guided hike at Old Miakka Preserve as we look for local wildlife and learn about native habitats. We will explore the preserve at a leisurely pace, stopping to observe and identify plants and animals as we walk. Old Miakka Preserve is a rare remnant of longleaf pine forest and Florida scrub, most of which has been lost in Sarasota County. The property’s surface waters flow into the Tatum Sawgrass Marsh and the Myakka River.

This program is suitable for all ages. Participants under 16 must attend with a parent or guardian.

Participants should bring a water bottle and wear clothing appropriate for the weather. We recommend sun protection, bug spray, and closed-toe shoes, no flip-flops. The trails are a mix of grass and sugar sand with intermittent shade. Please note there are no restrooms or water fountains on-site. We recommend using the restroom before you arrive.

This program is provided in partnership with the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Department.

Your gift of $5 or more per person will help the Big Waters Land Trust save wild places and continue to engage people in nature. We greatly appreciate your support!
